New Hires and Promotions

MVRDV announced that Rutger Huiberts, AIA will be returning to the firm as the new Director of MVRDV New York. Huiberts first began his architecture journey at this office in 2011, then spent 12 years at MVRDV Rotterdam, working on international projects.

Staten Island Borough President Vito Fossella announced on Wednesday, August 6, that Staten Islander Angie Master has been designated Vice Chair of the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission. Master has a background in commercial real estate, working as a broker at Staten Island’s Prendamano Real Estate.

Honors and Awards

Architectural Record announced the winners of its 2025 Women in Architecture Award, including AIA members Gina Bocra, FAIA, LEED AP, Roberta Washington, FAIA, NOMAC, and Cynthia Weese, FAIA.

The Facade Tectonics Institute announced the winners of its third biennial Virtuvian Honors & Awards Program. The 2025 program will be chaired by Peter Arbour, CEO and Founder of Liquid-wall.

Transitions and Departures

Sarah Carroll, Chair of the Landmarks Preservation Commission, has announced her retirement. She held the position for almost seven years, preserving 1437 sites in that time.

Hoffmann Architects + Engineers has announced the retirement of Russell M. Sanders, AIA, after 47 years with the company. One of the firm’s first employees, Sanders served as President since 2019. Earlier this year, he transitioned to President Emeritus, acting as Senior Advisor to the Board of Directors and guiding the incoming leadership team.
