Mergers and Expansions

Global design firm Sasaki has acquired DLANDstudio, a Brooklyn-based firm led by Susannah Drake, FASLA, FAIA.

Olson Kundig has opened a New York City office, its first east coast location.

Marvel has opened a new office in Richmond, Virginia, the firm’s third location after New York and San Juan.

 

New Hires and Promotions

HWKN has elevated four individuals to Partner: Dorin Baul, Jessica Knobloch-Arscott, Robert May, and Olga Snowden.

Colberg Architecture appointed Kelly Collini as Principal.

Dattner Architects has created of a Director of Sustainability role, which will be filled by Senior Associate Shefali Sanghvi.

Celia Imrey has joined Adjaye Associates as Global Head of Exhibit Design.

Hadiza Djibring, AIA, has joined SGA’s New York office as Lab Planner.

Beyer Blinder Belle Architects and Planners has promoted Kyung Jae Yu, AIA, and Elizabeth Kim, AIA, LEED AP, to Principals and Gaspare Malek, AIA, and Nadene Taylor, Assoc. AIA, LEED GA, to Senior Associates. Youssef Baroud; Tiffany Carlin, AIA; Emily Dangelmaier; Sonya Mantell; Loida Martinez; Maja Paklar, AIA; Yuting Pan, LEED GA; Harry Peltz; Amber Pesklevis; Ariane Prache; Alex Tsang, AIA; Kitty Tsui; and Miao Zhang have been promoted to Associates.

 

Institutional and Government

Mayor Eric Adams has appointed Eric Ulrich as the new commissioner of the NYC Department of Buildings. Adams also announced the appointment of Margaret Anadu as Chair of the NYC Economic Development Corporation’s Board of Directors.

The NYC Department of Design and Construction has announced that Magalie Austin has been named Executive Deputy Commissioner overseeing DDC’s Office of Diversity & Industry Relations, Human Resources and Staff Development/Training as well as Community Partnerships & STEAM Education Initiatives. DDC also named Eric Macfarlane as First Deputy Commissioner and Salvatore Cali Jr. as Deputy Commissioner for Public Buildings.

After 13 years leading the organization, Christine Gaspar will be stepping down as Executive Director of the Center for Urban Pedagogy in September 2022.
