New Hires and Promotions

Columbia GSAPP has appointed architect, engineer, and academic Lydia Kallipoliti as the new director of its Master of Science in Advanced Architectural Design program.

Martin Finio has been named Associate Dean of Yale School of Architecture. He will take up the new role this summer and continue his work as Senior Critic at the school.

New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) has named architectural historian Gabrielle Esperdy to lead its Hillier College of Architecture and Design as the new dean.

AARIS Design Architects has named Elizabeth Johnson as its Executive Vice President | Interior Design Lead.

Dattner Architects is pleased to announce the promotion of Patrick McAffrey, Shefali Sanghvi, and Philippe Martelly to Associate Principal in recognition of their exceptional leadership and deep-seated passion for enriching urban environments. Heather McKinstry and Rem Bruhn have been promoted to Senior Associate and Harriet Andronikides to Associate.

DIFFA has announced that Tom Polucci, Senior Principal and Firm-wide Director of Interiors at HOK, has been elected as the new Chairman of the Board.

Buro Happold has named Denzil Gallagher as their new US Managing Director. Gallagher has been with Buro Happold for over three decades.

 

Leadership and Firm Transitions

After almost eight years leading Cooper Union, President Laura Sparks has announced that she will be moving on to her next professional endeavor. In her new role at FS Investments and FFO Capital, headquartered in Philadelphia, she will lead the organizations in increasing financial inclusion and creating equitable access to opportunities for social mobility.

Van Alen Institute, the 130-year-old urban design nonprofit, has announced that its Executive Director, Deborah Marton, will step down from her role in August 2024 to focus on family and her work at the New York City Public Design Commission.

FX Collaborative partner Ann (Annie) M. Rolland, FAIA, LEED AP has announced her retirement after 28 years at the practice.

 

Awards and Recognitions

For more than 20 years, the Historic Districts Council has honored a New Yorker who has significantly contributed to the celebration and preservation of New York City. This year, HDC will present Michael Hiller with the Landmarks Lion Award at their 2024 fall gala.

The Storefront for Art and Architecture announced the honorees of its Storefront Gala, taking place September 23, 2024 at the Grand Central Oyster Bar. This year’s honorees are artist Amanda Williams, architect Annabelle Selldorf, and curator Tom Finkelpearl.

Docomomo US is celebrating its US founding president Theodore Prudon, FAIA, FAPT and the launch of the Theodore Prudon Fund for Preservation Education with a fall fete on September 25, 2024.
