Awards and Recognitions

The American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) has announced its 2024 Fellow, Medal, and Honor recipients. Six ASLA-NY members will receive national honors this year, including Linda Pollak, AIA, and Claire Weisz, FAIA, FRAIC.

Research conducted by global architecture and design firm Corgan has received the Environmental Design Research Association (EDRA) Certificate of Research Excellence (CORE). Developed by Corgan—Hugo, the firm’s research and innovation group, in partnership with Corgan’s Workplace Strategies team, “The Hybrid Report” has received CORE recognition, which EDRA awards to rigorous and innovative practice-based environmental design research studies.

Hoffmann Architects + Engineers has announced the recipient of the 2024 Hoffmann Diversity Advancement Scholarship, offered in partnership with the Connecticut Architecture Foundation. Alyssa Duran, a fourth-year student pursuing a Bachelor of Architecture degree at New York City College of Technology, was selected from a competitive applicant pool as the second recipient of the scholarship, which was established in 2022.

 

 

New Hires and Promotions

Cornell University’s College of Architecture, Art, and Planning (AAP) has announced architect, urban planner, and academic Jose Castillo as its next Department of Architecture Chair. Castillo, the co-founder of the Mexico City-based studio a|911, has taught previously at the University of PennsylvaniaTulane University, the University of New Mexico, and Harvard GSD and joins the faculty in Ithaca as a full Professor beginning this summer, before the start of the fall academic term.

ESKW/Architects has welcomed Architectural Designers Cherif Farid and Alexandra Madsen to their team.

WEISS/MANFREDI has promoted Matthew G. Ferraro, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP BD+C, to Principal. Ferraro was the project manager for the Schwartz Reisman Innovation Campus, and currently serves as Co-chair of the AIANY LGBTQIA+ Alliance.

Beyer Blinder Belle announced its newest partner, Jennie Gwin, AIA. Gwin has over 20 years of experience in historic preservation and adaptive reuse, with particular expertise in federal government and historic rehabilitation tax credit projects.

Kevin Lamyuktseung has been promoted to Associate Principal at SO – IL. Since joining SO – IL in 2013, he has grown alongside the office through his leading role in the design of projects including Amant in Brooklyn and the recently published Williams College Museum of Art in Williamstown, MA.

HOK has promoted Kirtan Patel, AIA, LEED GA, and Albert Kaneshiro, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, DBIA, to regional leaders of Aviation + Transportation for its Northeast and Southwest practices, respectively.

The New School Board of Trustees announced the appointment of Joel Towers, University Professor of Architecture and Sustainable Design and the former Executive Dean of Parsons School of Design at The New School, as the 10th President of the university.

 

 

Mergers and Expansions

Danish architecture studio BIG has opened an office in Santa Monica in a renovated 1928 Spanish revival building designed by iconic Los Angeles architect Paul R. Williams. The 1928 building was refurbished by the team, many of whom will be joining the new BIG Los Angeles team, recruited both from the New York office and from Los Angeles.
