New Hires and Promotions

Architect Helen Billson, Assoc. AIA, has joined MA as Director of Operations in their New York City office.

Also in the city, Kostow Greenwood Architects (KGA) has named two new Principals, Lena Dau-Ping Fan, AIA, and Gary Li, AIA, LEED Green Associate.

Field Operations (formerly called James Corner Field Operations) has announced its transition from a sole proprietorship to a new partnership. Joining Founding Partner James Corner are Partners Sarah Weidner Astheimer, Richard Kennedy, and Lisa Switkin.

Reddymade welcomes Kaija Wuollet as Principal in their New York City studio.

Allied Works has promoted Thea von Geldern as their newest Principal, joining Brad Cloepfil, Chelsea Grassinger, Kyle Lommen, and Gabriel Smith to lead the New York- and Oregon-based architecture and design practice.

Perkins Eastman has announced the promotion of 78 members of its staff this year, including Bryce de Reynier, AIA, LEED AP, Jesse Mallen, AIA, and Emily Pierson-Brown, AIA, AICP, LEED Green Associate, to Associate Principal.


Academic, Institutional, and Government Appointments

Architect and Past President of AIA New York Mark Strauss, FAIA, AICP, LEED, has accepted a position at the Gdansk University of Technology in Poland. He will be lecturing on Architecture and Planning for Development and exploring issues related to the redevelopment of the industrial waterfront, shrinking cities, and affordable housing.

More than 25 new academic leaders and faculty have joined the Pratt community for the 2023-2024 academic year, including Quilian Riano, Dean of the School of Architecture; Sarah A. Lichtman, Chair of History of Art and Design; Christopher Brownell, Chair of Mathematics and Science; Leonel Ponce, Academic Director of Sustainable Environmental Systems and Visiting Assistant Professor, Graduate Center for Planning and the Environment; Farzam Yazdanseta, Associate Chair of Undergraduate Architecture and Adjunct Associate Professor, School of Architecture.


Awards and Recognitions

Joel Sanders, FAIA, Principal of JSA/MIXdesign, has been named this year’s recipient of the Lawrence Israel Prize awarded by the Interior Design Department at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT).

SCAPE Founder Kate Orff, FASLA, received the OBEL AWARD architecture prize for their green infrastructure project, Living Breakwaters. Built of stone and ecologically-enhanced concrete, the design is a half-mile-long structure along the south shore of Staten Island.

Eight artists and architects have been elected as National Academicians by the National Academy of Design for their achievements in contemporary art and architecture, including New York-based architect Richard Gluckman, FAIA.
