by: AIA New York
With 2026 just underway, AIA New York is looking ahead to fill leadership roles for 2027, including positions on the Board of Directors and Elective Committees.
The Board manages the business of the Chapter, with each member bringing invaluable knowledge in their area of responsibility. Board members are often sought by other AIA members for their expertise and frequently collaborate with Program Committees. Select Board Officers also serve on the Center for Architecture Board of Trustees. The AIA New York Board provides strategic vision, prioritizes goals, and approves the annual chapter budget, thus shaping the priorities of management, staff, and volunteer-led advocacy initiatives.
Successful Board members will be able to attend monthly meetings, engage in collaborative discussions, articulate priorities, and participate in a variety of ways to fulfill fiscal oversight and enhance organizational engagement.
Elective Committees support specific chapter activities:
- financial review and oversight (Finance)
- recommendation or selection of award recognition (Honors)
- content visioning for the chapter publication (Oculus)
- selection of the jury (Design Awards)
- guidance and support for candidates seeking to be elevated to the College of Fellows (Fellows)
Committee participation requires strong interest in the focus area, wide knowledge of professionals in the New York region, and team spirit to engage with colleagues to meet deadlines.
