07.17.12: City Council Hearing on NYU Expansion
Council Member Margaret Chin coordinated a reworking of the New York University Core Plan which significantly reduced floor area and addressed community concerns about public access to open space in the two NYU superblocks. The AIA New York Chapter has been actively engaged in the redesign process [read about it in the Wall Street Journal and New York Observer]. On Tuesday, 7/17, the Council’s Land Use Committee voted 19-1 to endorse the “Chin Compromise,” reminiscent of Mario Cuomo’s intervention in Forest Hills which launched his political career.
