New Hires and Promotions

The Board of Directors of the Municipal Art Society of New York (MAS) has appointed Keri Butler as President of the organization. Butler has been a vital part of MAS since December 2022, first serving as Vice President of Planning and Policy. Among her notable achievements at MAS, she launched the Enduring Culture Initiative, supported  by the Mellon Foundation and the New York Community Trust, which aims to preserve NYC’s cultural  heritage through place-based community-informed solutions, and spearheaded a collaboration with The  New York Climate Exchange, highlighting design innovations for extreme weather.

Global architecture and design firm Corgan has announced that Ken Clausen has joined as a Principal in the firm’s rapidly growing New York Data Centers studio. With 30 years of experience in mission critical project management and operational leadership, Clausen will lead the advancement and delivery of data center projects.

New York-based design and planning firm Urbahn Architects marked its 80th anniversary this year by expanding its leadership, promoting eight professionals from within the firm to associate principals: Bridgette Van Sloun, AIA, CPHC, WELL APChristopher Young, AIADaniel Kohn, AIA, LEED AP, Enrico Kurniawan, AIA, NOMA, Ijeoma D. Iheanacho, AIA, LEED AP, NOMALawrence Gutterman, AIA, DBIA, LEED APNandini Sengupta, Assoc. AIA, LEED AP, NOMA, and Ryan Bieber, AIA, LEED AP.

As BKSK Architects marks its 40th anniversary, the firm has announced eight promotions: Eban Singer and Will Russell have been promoted to Principal, Adel Bagli, Erik Chu, and Joe Vivino, AIA, promoted to Associate, JT Yi promoted to BKSK Director of BIM Technology, and Luisa Vargas and Kelsey Willis promoted to Senior Project Manager.

Hoffmann Architects + Engineers has announced the promotions of Erin L. Kesegi, AIA, and Benjamin J. Robinson, AIA, who have been named co-directors of the firm’s Connecticut office. Both Kesegi and Robinson earned promotions from Senior Architect to Vice President and Director, Architecture, and together they will lead Hoffmann’s New Haven-based technical team.

 

Honors and Awards

Barry Bergdoll, Art Historian and former Chief Curator of Architecture and Design at MoMA, has been named recipient of the 2025 Vincent Scully Prize by the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C. Bergdoll will receive the award in a ceremony at the Museum on Wednesday, October 22 that will include a conversation with Washington Post art and architecture critic, Philip Kennicott. Bergdoll is a Board Chair Emeritus of the Center for Architecture and a member of the Exhibition Committee.

The Historic Districts Council has announced the recipient of its 2025 Landmarks Lion Award, Morris Adjmi, FAIA. Adjmi, who established is eponymous firm Morris Adjmi Architects (MA) in 1997, is well known for bringing a fresh approach to contextual architecture and adaptive reuse in the city’s historic neighborhoods. He will be honored at the HDC fall gala.

The National Academy of Design has announced 27 artists and architects from across the United States who have been elected as National Academicians in the Class of 2025. Recognized for their contributions to contemporary American art and architecture, this year’s class of newly elected Academicians includes several New York City architects, including: Stephen Cassell, FAIA, Architecture Research Office (ARO), Michael Meredith, MOS, Victor Trahan, FAIA, Trahan Architects, Kim Yao, Architecture Research Office (ARO), and Adam Yarinsky, Architecture Research Office (ARO).

Architectural Record announces Thomas Phifer, FAIA, as the Inaugural Architect of RECORD Award recipient, celebrating a lifetime of achievement in the profession and exceptional work published in the pages of the magazine.

The fund for the Architecture Class of 1972 Professor at the Yale School of Architecture was created in celebration of the class’s 50th reunion to support a faculty position in the history and theory of architecture. The inaugural Class of 1972 Professor is David Gissen (MArch ’96), who is a historian of architecture and author of works of architectural theory and criticism.

 

Mergers and Expansions

The New York-based practice Lang Architecture, led by founder Drew Lang, is expanding its presence in the Hudson Valley with the opening of a new satellite studio in Rhinebeck, New York. The new office builds on Lang’s extensive work in the region, including the acclaimed Hudson Woods residential development in Kerhonkson, as well as numerous private residences and community-driven projects throughout the Catskills and Hudson Valley.
