Buro Happold has acquired acoustics and audio-visual consultancy Vanguardia Limited and its subsidiary Crowd Dynamics International.

Furniture company Herman Miller has acquired Knoll for $1.8 billion.

 

New Hires and Promotions

Architecture + Information (A+I) has named Kate Thatcher, AIA, as Chief Executive Officer. Sommer Schauer, AIA, has been named Chief Design Officer and Peter Knutson has been elevated to Chief Strategy Officer. The firm also welcomed Natasha Markley as Executive Director of Marketing & Partnerships.

Buro Happold has named Craig Schwitter, PE, as Senior Partner and Chair of the firm’s global board.

Christin Weaver has joined MKDA’s New York Office as a Senior Interior Designer.

Steven Holl Architects has announced the promotion of two new Associates: Yun Shi and Ruoyu Wei.

Ted Moudis Associates has promoted Jamie Feuerborn, LEED AP, to Principal of Worplace Strategy. Janice Fellows; Jeff Knoll; Rachel Robinson, IIDA, LEEDP AP; and Richard Bliss, LEED AP, were promoted to Studio Design Principal.

Woods Bagot’s New York studio has hired Sarah Nolan Hoff as Business Development Leader and leana LaFontaine as Regional Marketing Manager.

 

Institutional and Academic

On May 25, 2021, President Joseph Biden announced his intent to appoint four members to the US Commission of Fine Arts, including Justin Garrett Moore, Inaugural Program Officer, Humanities in Place, Andrew Mellon Foundation; and Billie Tsien, AIA, Partner, Todd Williams Billie Tsien Architects.

Amale Andraos, Co-founder of WORKac, will be stepping down as Dean of the Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation at the end of 2021.
