The beginning of September means back to school for many New Yorkers and in this environment, it is hard not to look at ways to shape the future.  There are two important opportunities to impact the profession through AIA that we would like to highlight.

Locally, AIA New York is beginning its nomination process for 2019 leaders. The 2018 Nominating Committee will be elected by the membership in October 2017. The Nominating Committee works from January to June, 2018 to formulate a slate of leaders for board and elective committee work in 2019. We invite you to join us on 09.17.17 for an open meeting for Architect, International Associate, Emeritus, and Associate members of AIANY to name candidates for the 2018 Nominating Committee Ballot. This is democracy in action; please join us! Better yet, bring another member – a friend, coworker, former classmate, or ARE study – to share in this visioning of the future of AIANY.

Second, the 2018 AIA National committee nominations are open. AIA is seeking members interested in serving on national committees on a wide variety of topics, from the Building Performance Advisory Group to Equity and the Future of Architecture Committee. To nominate a member or view all AIA national committees with openings in 2018, visit the nomination homepage (member login required). The nomination process closes at 5pm ET on 10.09.17; appointments will be made and members notified accordingly before the end of 2017.
