2008 AIA New York Design Awards

The AIA New York Chapter's annual Design Awards Program recognizes excellence in architectural design by New York City architects and in New York City projects. The program's purpose is to increase awareness of outstanding architecture and to honor the architects, clients, and consultants who work together to improve the built environment.

Categories
The three categories for AIA New York Chapter Design Awards are Interiors, Architecture, and Projects.
Work submitted in the Interiors and Architecture categories must be completed.
The Projects category recognizes unbuilt architecture and urban design as well as theoretical or conceptual work, including but not limited to landscape design, land art, research, architectural objects, and installations. Projects undertaken for academic credit are not eligible.
Entries of Historic Preservation work in all categories are encouraged.

Eligibility
Architecture located anywhere in the world designed by AIA New York Chapter members or by registered architects practicing in New York City; and architecture located in New York City designed by registered architects practicing anywhere in the world. Associate AIA New York Chapter members may submit in the Projects category only.

Built work must have been completed and unbuilt projects must have been initiated after January 1, 2003.

Criteria
Each entry in the AIA New York Design Awards program is judged on the success with which it has met its individual requirements. Entries are weighed individually, not in competition with others. Criteria include quality of design; resolution of the program or idea; and innovation, thoughtfulness, and technique. All categories are open to both AIA New York members and nonmembers. Jury decisions will be based solely on the materials submitted. No field trips will be taken.

Submission
Please register online. Upon receipt of registration and payment, the registrant will receive via his or her email address, a username, password and instructions to continue the registration process for the project.

Registrants who prefer to pay by check may download the registration form and send it in with applicable fees. Registrants must provide their email address in order to receive submission materials to be completed by them. Please provide email address for the registrant only as this email address will receive further instructions. The AIA New York Chapter cannot be held responsible for delays in delivery of submission materials.

  • Associate AIA members - $75
  • Late fee for registration after the February 8th deadline - $50
  • Entry fees are non-refundable

Return of Submissions
Submissions will be returned by FedEx after May 15. Entrants will receive an email shortly after the completion of the program that provides the FedEx tracking number. Please do not provide a return envelope. Please do not call or email to find out the status of your submission.

Design Awards Luncheon
On Wednesday, April 30, 2008. AIA New York Chapter will honor the 2008 Design Awards winners during a Luncheon at Cipriani Wall Street. Publicity
The AIA New York Chapter will publicly announce the winners of the Design Awards at the February 25th Public Symposium, followed by the Design Awards Luncheon on April 30th. The Design Awards Exhibition opens on May 1st at the Center for Architecture and will be on view through July 2008. In addition, winners will be published in a special Awards issue of Oculus, in printed materials promoting the Luncheon, and on the AIA New York Chapter's website. All entries will be displayed on the Chapter website.
