On 04.21.17, the American Institute of Architects New York Chapter (AIANY) brought together over 600 members of the architecture community to celebrate design excellence at its annual Honors and Awards Luncheon, held at Cipriani Wall Street. The Luncheon recognized the teams behind the 35 winning projects of the 2017 AIANY Design Awards, as well as the significant accomplishments of three distinguished honorees who have helped steer the fate of our industry in unique ways. Martin Filler, an architecture writer especially known for his contributions to The New York Review of Books, received the Stephen A. Kliment Oculus Award. For her commitment to sustainable building design, Fiona Cousins, PE, received this year’s Award of Merit. Finally, Dr. Sharon E. Sutton, FAIA, received the Medal of Honor in recognition of her distinguished work in the architecture profession.

The 2017 AIANY Design Awards project winners are also showcased in an exhibition at the Center for Architecture, on view through June 24.
