Task force rally

This morning, AIA New York joined Deputy Major Meera Joshi, NYC Department of Design and Construction (DDC) Commissioner Tom Foley, and fellow members of the Mayor’s Capital Process Reform Task Force at City Hall to call on the State Government to authorize better construction tools for the city. The proposals will allow capital projects to be delivered faster, more efficiently and cost effectively. The four bills would:

1. Allow the use of CM-Build and Progressive Design-Build

2. Reduce Public Hearing requirements

3. Reform the NYS Insurance Fund

4. Make DDC into an authority

“By expanding the procurement tools available to NYC with the authorization of alternative delivery methods, these changes will allow for increased use of quality-based selection and improve fairness and transparency,” said Jesse Lazar, Assoc. AIA, Executive Director, AIA New York. “These five proposals by the Capital Process Reform Task Force are practical, common-sense solutions to enable a more efficient and cost-effective procurement process. These tools will also enable greater MWBE participation by creating additional opportunities for firms to work with the City on capital projects.”
