This summer, New Yorkers will go to the polls for primary elections which will include candidates for state legislators. Given the importance of state law the built environment and the practice of architecture, AIA Bronx, AIA Brooklyn, and AIA New York released a questionnaire for candidates for local New York State legislative seats. This questionnaire will assist our members in understanding which candidates are supportive of architects and design as they go to the polls in 2022.
We advocate for policies that promote equity, sustainability, and growth in the built environment and a political environment favorable to innovative design solutions. More information about our advocacy efforts and public positions is available through our websites.
The questionnaire has been developed by a team of members from AIA’s New York City Chapters; they will review the responses and provide a list of highly-rated candidates prior to election day. The analysis will also provide each AIA chapter with an avenue for ongoing engagement with civic leaders through AIA programming and civic meetings.
Candidates who wish to participate can download the questionnaire here and return it to Suzanne Mecs, Managing Director, AIANY, at smecs@aiany.org.
