New Practices New York 2008 Competition

New Practices New York is the second juried portfolio competition and exhibition in a new biennial tradition sponsored by the New Practices Committee of the AIA New York Chapter. It serves as a platform to recognize and promote new, innovative and emerging architecture firms within New York City that have undertaken unique and commendable strategies - both in the projects they undertake and the practices they have established.

2008 registrations are due by May 16, 2008; submissions are due by May 30, 2008. Go to www.aiany.org/newpractices/2008 for more information.

AIA New York Design Awards

The AIA New York Chapter's annual Design Awards Program recognizes excellence in architectural design by New York City architects and in New York City projects. The program's purpose is to increase awareness of outstanding architecture and to honor the architects, clients, and consultants who work together to improve the built environment. The Design Awards program includes the juried competition, a Design Awards Luncheon, Symposium, related lectures by category winners, and an Exhibition at the Center for Architecture.

AIA New York Biennial Building Type Award programs co-sponsored by the Boston Society of Architects (BSA)

The AIA New York Chapter Building Type Design Awards has been established to recognize excellence and innovation in the design of particular buildings types. The program is co-sponsored with the Boston Society of Architects. The program's purpose is to increase awareness of special facility design and to honor the architects, clients and consultants who work together to improve the built environment. Entries are welcomed and encouraged regardless of project size, budget or style, from both established and new practitioners.

In 2008 the sectors highlighted will be: Educational Facility Design, Sustainable Design and Urban Design.

In 2009 the sectors highlighted will be: Health and Housing Facilities. Schedule details to come.
