Last week, AIA New York sent a letter to the City Planning Commission expressing our support for the City of Yes for Housing Opportunity proposed zoning text amendment. The proposal is a historic effort to tackle NYC’s housing shortage and affordability crisis by making several small changes to the city’s outdated zoning resolution. Aiming to create affordable housing in every neighborhood of the city, the proposal includes efforts to eliminate parking mandates, create additional affordable and supportive housing, eliminate bans on apartments, and enable office to residential conversions. The need for these changes cannot be overstated as New Yorkers struggle from the persistent burden of the housing and affordability crises. AIANY has continued to serve as a resource and advocate for the administration with the other two City of Yes proposals, and we are excited to maintain our partnership with DCP as this ambitious proposal makes its way through the approval process.
