AIA New York Political Action Fund’s highly rated candidates come out on top! Due to the City Council’s redistricting process, this was a unique election where council members serve two two-year terms. As a result of the off-year election, voter turnout was incredibly low, with only 86,000 New Yorkers casting their ballot early; this accounts for 1.9% of active registered voters citywide. In the race in District 47 between two incumbent council members, Justin Brannan cruised to victory after a tough battle with Ari Kagan. Other AIANY PAF highly rated candidates won last night, including Erik Bottcher (District 3), Keith Powers (District 4), Crystal Hudson (District 35), and Rita Joseph (District 40). Marjorie Velazquez, running in Bronx District 13, lost to Kristy Marmorato, but we applaud her hard-fought race. AIANY PAF is thrilled to congratulate our five highly rated candidates who will continue to proudly serve New York City in the City Council for the next two years.
