The American Institute of Architects New York (AIANY) opposes the administration’s decision to withdraw the United States from the Paris Agreement. The 2015 landmark accord, within the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, is the first-ever global agreement to set the world on a low-carbon future.
AIANY has long been devoted to fostering a more sustainable and resilient built environment and we hereby reaffirm our ongoing commitment to the mitigation of climate change. We will continue to help architects and other design and construction professionals gain the skills and knowledge to design better, more energy-efficient buildings; advocate for policies that promote sustainability in both the built and natural environments; and raise public awareness about the role of buildings in combating climate change.
New York City is a leader on urban sustainability, green building design, energy efficiency, and resiliency policies due, in large part, to the dedicated efforts of our members. Further, many of our members are innovators in and contributors to the design of high-performing buildings and resilient communities around the globe. We will continue to support our members and constituents with renewed commitment to knowledge-sharing and collaborative cooperation toward a more sustainable future. We will work alongside our City and State of New York, as well as other communities, state governments, and private and public partners on behalf of all people in all places, worldwide.
Regardless of the actions of this administration, we know New York architects will not withdraw from their commitment to design and advocate for sustainable, equitable, and healthy communities for all.
