Together, AIA New York (AIANY) and the Center for Architecture are a unique force in the New York City architectural ecosystem. They are also invaluable to each other: the Center for Architecture’s initiatives are strengthened by AIANY’s direct engagement with architectural professionals and AIANY benefits from the Center for Architecture’s role as a platform through which to engage the public.

In 2017, the two organizations worked with LaPlaca Cohen to identify strategic goals, objectives, and tactics to ensure AIANY and the Center for Architecture’s success and growth over the next five years. LaPlaca Cohen collaborated with an internal Steering Committee comprised of leadership and senior staff members from both organizations to formulate a Strategic Framework.

Earlier this year, the Framework was ratified by the boards of directors of AIANY and the Center for Architecture. In the coming years, we will work to implement this framework in our day to day operations.

The Strategic Framework can be summed up by the following long-term goals:

  • Together, AIA New York and the Center for Architecture will work to advocate for a more engaging and responsible environment for all who create and experience architecture.
  • AIANY will cultivate a New York architectural community that is adept, influential, and just, empowering its members to work at the apex of their abilities.
  • The Center for Architecture will become the most compelling, relevant, and open place to learn about architecture and urbanism in New York City.
