On the evening of Monday, January 13, 2020, nearly 200 architects and allied professionals gathered at the Center for Architecture to discover the winners of the 2020 AIA New York Design Awards.

Following two days of deliberations by a a jury of independent architects, educators, critics, and planners, AIA New York publicly announced the winning projects during a live event followed by a moderated discussion with the jurors. The jurors selected Glenstone by Thomas Phifer and Partners and PWP Landscape Architects as the Best in Competition.

For each of the five categories (Architecture, Interiors, Projects, Urban Design, and Sustainability), winning projects were granted either an Honor, Merit, or Citation award. Projects were individually assessed based on their design quality, response to context and community, program resolution, innovation, thoughtfulness, and technique. Submitted projects had to be completed by AIANY members, architects and designers practicing in New York, or be located in New York and designed by architects and designers based elsewhere. The winners range from temporary installations and exhibitions to large-scale urban interventions. 17 of the 35 winners are projects located in New York City.

All winning work will be exhibited in the 2020 AIANY Design Awards Exhibition at the Center for Architecture beginning April 16 with an opening reception from 6-8pm. Winning projects will also be recognized at the Honors and Awards Luncheon on April 17 at Cipriani Wall Street.
