This temporary, transportable pavilion is inspired by the cone of the pitch pine tree native to Governors Island. DFA’s concept was to envision a structure that brings indigenous plant life back to its original context. When erected, the structure easily accommodates varied programs and events such as musical performances and educational classes, in addition to providing simple, elegant shelter from the sun, wind, and rain. When no longer needed, the pavilion leaves behind a planted footprint that grows, expands, and blurs over time, contributing to the natural landscape and supporting local insects and habitat.
