AIA New York Elects 2026 Leadership at 158th Annual Meeting

June 20, 2025

On Wednesday, June 18, 2025, AIA New York hosted its 158th Annual Meeting, where members gathered to elect 2026 leadership and celebrated the achievements of 2025 and its award recipients. The meeting also served as a moment to reflect on committee programs and initiatives of the last year, with a spotlight on 2025 AIANY President Benjamin Gilmartin, AIA’s presidential theme, See You IRL: Designing for Public Life.

 NEW LEADERSHIP
Following a brief introduction from AIANY Executive Director Jesse Lazar, Assoc. AIA, the meeting began with a presentation from Gilmartin on his theme surrounding the importance of public spaces. He noted particularly the relevance of this theme in this present, pivotal moment, as New York City faces unprecedented political turmoil, social fragmentation, and climate crises.

After presenting on the state of the Chapter, from memorable lectures and tours to its membership and advocacy, Gilmartin turned over the podium to 2024 AIANY Board Treasurer Alexander Lamis, FAIA, who presented on the Chapter’s financial health and budget.

2025 AIANY Board Secretary Kirsten Sibilia, Assoc. AIA, LEED AP, presented the work of the nominating committee, who created the 2025 Board and Elective Committee Slate, featured below.

About AIA New York

Established in 1857, AIA New York is the oldest and largest chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), serving as the collective voice of nearly 5,000 licensed architects, allied professionals, students, and design enthusiasts in New York City.

The Center for Architecture, inaugurated in 2003 as the AIA’s first-ever cultural institution, engages local and international audiences with the value, impact, and wonder of architecture. Together, we advance the value and practice of architecture to promote just and sustainable communities.

Both AIA New York and the Center for Architecture advocate for the importance of design in enhancing urban life, offering programming that fosters engagement among architects, professionals, and the public. We prioritize values such as civic engagement, equity, environmental sustainability, resiliency, technological innovation, and inspiring design. aiany.org
