It is with deep sorrow that we inform our membership of the passing of Susanne Milne, MAA, on November 23, 2020, following a fearless battle with melanoma. Milne was a Principal at 1100 Architect since 2015.

A gifted architect and insightful architect, she was an integral member of 1100’s leadership. At the firm, Milne led design and delivery for many of their most high-profile projects, including Main: East Side Lofts, a recipient of a 2017 AIANY Design Award.

Prior to 1100, Milne worked with Studio Libeskind and NBBJ. She received her Master of Architecture from the School of Architecture at the Royal Danish Academy of the Fine Arts in 1999.

Below, we’ve gathered tributes from members of our community.

From David Piscuskas, FAIA, LEED AP, Founding Principal, 1100 Architect; 2017 President, AIANY:

Susanne lived an absolute commitment to architecture, and made an exceptional contribution to its future with her remarkable mentorship of young architects. She will forever inspire us by her personal integrity, her unfailing kindness, and her courageous character.

From Juergen Riehm, FAIA, BDA, Founding Principal, 1100 Architect:

Susanne was so much more than an integral part of our studio culture and leadership team. She was a trusted collaborator who elevated everything she touched, a selfless mentor who invested in younger and emerging designers, and a close personal friend who I will miss dearly.
