Starting later this month, three Chapters of the American Institute of Architects (AIA)—Boston Society for Architecture (BSA/AIA), AIA New York (AIANY), and AIA Los Angeles (AIA|LA)—will be hosting a multi-part weekly series, Penciling Out: Financing Solutions for Affordable and Climate Forward Housing, to inform, inspire, and connect industry professionals eager to find solutions around financially feasible, climate forward, and affordable housing.

In recent years, industry professionals have shared that it has been increasingly challenging to make financially viable energy-efficient, innovative, and affordable housing projects in regions like New York, Massachusetts, and California where stringent climate policies and high construction costs can make designing and building housing more difficult. This upcoming webinar series aims to address these concerns by shedding light on the financing opportunities currently available across these regions. The goal is to dispel the misconception that creating energy-efficient, high-quality, and well designed affordable housing struggles to pencil out, and to provide practical insights on how these projects can be successfully brought to life within today’s complex regulatory and financial landscape.

Join us for the first event on April 30 at 12:00 pm. This networking session and panel discussion will focus on the housing and climate crises, how they intersect, and unpack a framework for holistic solutions. Panelists include Miranda D’Oleo, Program Manager of Policy and Advocacy, BSA; Bria Donohue, Senior Manager of Government Affairs, AIANY; Will Wright, Hon. AIA, Director of Government and Public Affairs, AIA|LA; and Monte Hilleman, Vice President of Environmental Resiliency, Compliance & Investment, Sustainable Investment Group; with Wandy Pascoal, Project Manager: Housing Innovation & Awards, Boston Society for Architecture, moderating the conversation. Registration will go live tomorrow, April 10—stay tuned here!
