This year’s AIA Conference on Architecture, held in Las Vegas from June 6-8, gathered many AIA New York members who left their mark on the proceedings. Among them, AIA New York board member Pascal Sablan, AIA, NOMA, LEED AP, brought her SAY IT LOUD exhibition, originally launched at the Center for Architecture, to the expo floor.

As part of the Day 1 Keynote, David Rockwell, FAIA, spoke with 99% Invisible podcast host Roman Mars, recommending that architects don’t always try to create buildings that are permanent, but remember to be in the moment and embrace the ephemeral.

In the context of the panel Learning from Notre-Dame de Paris, AIANY member Jeffrey Murphy, FAIA, Partner, Murphy Burnham & Buttrick Architects, discussed his firm’s restoration of St. Patrick’s Cathedral and the process of safeguarding it from fire.

In the panel Sustainable Transformation: Public-Private Partnership Leads the Way, 2016 AIANY President Carol Loewensen, FAIA, and AIANY board member Regina Meyer spoke about NYU’s developments in Downtown Brooklyn. And Kai-Uwe Bergmann, FAIA, Partner, Bjarke Ingels Group, spoke on the Future of Floating Cities as part of the AIA+ARCHITECT booth program.

We enjoyed hearing from so many of you, and catching up with friends and colleagues at the College of Fellows Investiture Ceremony, where 17 of our members were elevated.
