Q. How can I get an expert witness?

A. Search the chapter firm database for those who have marked the special service "Expert Witness/Testimony"

Q. Where can I get access to legal information?

A. Texas Society of Architects has online legal information. It is an online source for laws, regulations, and explanations; it links directly to the legal code as maintained by the Secretary of State. The web address is www.txarch.com/tsa , and within the "Government" section is a page entitled "Laws and Regulations.

Because there can be differences among state and local statutes; be sure to check with a local attorney or other legal professional to confirm the law which pertains to your building location. The chapter has a short list of attorneys in New York who have worked regularly with architects, please call for a copy.

Q. What can I do if I have a problem with an architect?

A. If the architect is an AIA member contact the AIA Code of Ethics & Ethics Department, 202-626-7300. Or, if the architect is licensed in New York State you can also, Contact the Office of Professional Discipline.

Q. Is there information on Construction Associations?

A. The Dormitory Authority, New York's public construction agency, has a website designed for construction firms and their clients.Their site, www.dasny.org has a listing of construction-related information. The Encyclopedia of Associations, which includes listings of thousands of national non-profit organizations, includes briefs on Construction Associations. Most public or school libraries will carry a copy; the publication or database is available for purchase from Gale Research, Inc.

Q. How can I find certain building materials?

A. For building products, furnishings and services look in ARCAT, a workbook for architects containing three construction information directories and a collection of catalog information (available online at www.arcat.com); Re:Sources, a directory of local Tri-State sources which also has company profiles (visit them at www.cmgnews.com/Resources/HTML/res_title.htm); The Blue Book of Building & Construction; Architects Source Guide; or the Directory from Sweet's Group which has indices of trade names and manufacturers. (Look for Sweet's on the World Wide Web at www.sweets.com).

Q. Where can I get a stamp made?
