Hall
is an architectural woodworker whose shop is located
in Greenpoint Brooklyn. He is a founding member of the
East River Kayak Club,a not-for-profit organization
which promotes the building and use of wooden kayaks
in North Brooklyn and its surrounding waters. He built
his first kayak in 1976 and since the winter of 1999/2000
has conducted kayak building seminars in his shop. In
the upcoming year the club will, with the help of a
generous donor, be able to offer seminar space free
to neighborhood high school students. Mr. Hall's involvement
in the club is a natural outgrowth of his love for being
out on the water and his belief that to build a boat,
launch it, and see if it floats is an experience that
is at the core of human nature itself. This experience
addresses the need on the part of an individual to observe,
know and understand the world at large. He feels privileged
to call the East River, with its swirling currents and
gusting winds, home waters and believes that access
to the river is an essential issue that must be considered
in the planning for the future development of the North
Brooklyn waterfront.
