Before I started working on the proposal, I visited Roosevelt Island and took part in one of the tours organized by ENYA. During that time I tried to get in contact with residents. On returning to Paris, I researched both Roosevelt Island’s history and worked on urban analyses. This helped me to develop my concept and vision for the competition.

My first vision was that the project had to begin at the subway and tramway station; also that the project could provide a new, strong landmark with a social cultural character for New York City.

Baniahmad visited the site in September 2005 and started to work on this competition at the end of October. In total, she worked about two months on her submission.
