TECHNOLOGY COMMITTEE
(Click
here for Calendar)
Join us! Joining
means nothing more difficult than simply being on our mailing list and
attending a meeting if it is of interest to you.
We're open to all persons
in the design and technology professions. No, you do not have to be an
AIA member, or a licensed architect for that matter. You don't even have
to be in NYC. We currently have about 350 persons on our list, including
7 overseas, 12 outside the NYC area, and a surprising number in the "extended"
NYC area. Generally, about 30-40 people show up at our monthly meetings,
more for special events, like 1999's technology infrastructure symposium,
2000's wireless symposium, both held at J.P.Morgan (100+ persons), and
the design firm intranet presentation at Gensler (75 persons) in spring
2000.
Previously, we were
known as the "Computer Applications Committee". We have changed
the name and focus of our group: Now, as the Technology Committee, we
are dealing not only with desktop tools for the Architect, but are adding
IT infrastructure design, wireless and wired networking, telephony, collaboration,
email, the Internet, and more to our topic pool. You can read about our
work in the May 2000 issue of Achitectural Record (page 273) and on their
website under "Digital Architect" at http://www.archrecord.com/DIGITAL/DA_ARTIC/DA5_00.ASP
We meet monthly on
the 2nd Tuesday of every month at 6:15pm for about 2 hours (there are
exceptions sometimes). Several NYC firms have agreed to provide us with
space for our meetings, which is always a need of ours. We are currently
sending notices via email, but are interested in beginning a web-based
forum so that committee participants can share ideas. Several participants
have volunteered their time to IT-related needs and events in the Chapter,
and the city.
To be added to our
mailing list, simply send an email to the Committee Chair, Paul Seletsky
at pseletsky@gmail.com.
