Not Business as Usual: Opportunities Fair

Wednesday, 02/25/2009, 12:00–2:00pm
The economy has changed radically throughout the world in the last few months. The impact has been strongly felt in New York City's design community: projects have been put on hold or altogether stopped and new commissions are not readily forthcoming, resulting in the downsizing of firms--lay-offs and difficulty for young hires.

Join us for the bimonthly Wednesday lunchtime forum to discuss what we as architectural professionals can do to create new opportunities for professional employment and community service.

The February 25 event is an Opportunities Fair. Representatives from community organizations, non-profits, schools, and training programs will be on site to share information about volunteer opportunities, continuing education, and other opportunities. These include: Open House New York, Center for Architecture Foundation, Archiculture Film, Engineers without Borders, the Institute for Design and Construction, the Society of Design Administration, Canstruction, Design Trust for Public Space, Architecture for Tibet, Historic Districts Council, the Museum of the City of New York, Streetsblog/Livable Streets Network, the Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum, Emerging Green Builders, Architectural League, the NYU Schack Institute, the Van Alen Institute, AIA ENYA (Emerging New York Architects), the Hester Street Collaborative, ACE Mentor Program, and Architecture for Humanity.

If you represent an organization that wishes to participate, please email Tara Pyle at tpyle@aiany.org.
