Public Architecture presents The 1% Pro Bono Design Program

Monday, 05/12/2008, 6:00–8:00pm
Public Architecture is a national nonprofit based in San Francisco. Through identification of relevant projects, activities, and initiatives that may otherwise not be done or acknowledged, the organization leverages design to improve the quality of public life for all people. The organization currently undertakes two major activities: Design Campaigns, prototypical design projects linked with comprehensive advocacy initiatives to address provocative issues of broad social relevance and to inspire and facilitate professional engagement in such issues; and The 1% program, a national initiative sponsored by the NEA and the AIA, through which architecture firms pledge a percentage of their time to pro bono service and are linked to nonprofits in need, inspirational models of pro bono design, and design and legal resources. This presentation will focus on the work of the organization, and discuss how the design professions can get involved.
